queensland floods | january 2011

Over the past few days, Queensland have experienced one of the worst floods ever recorded in history. Lives have been lost, houses destroyed and now 75% of the state is considered a major natural disaster zone. Reporters have shared multiple stories that have really hit home. The Brisbane River has broken its banks and is expected to reach its peak of 5.2m by 4am on the 13th of January.

While the government was quick to react and warn Ipswish, many residents were not able to prepare for floods in Gympie, Dalby and many other locations. Many families have lost everything and some have unfortunately lost their own lives. A young boy lost his own life when he directed an adult savior to save his younger brother first. The suburb of Caboolture (approx an hour north of Brisbane and 10 mins away from me) where my Dad lives was hit pretty bad and flood waters completely isolated the town.

Thankfully, my loved ones have stayed safe and dry but my heart goes out to all those affected by this horrible disaster! I feel like there’s not much I can do, but the Permiers Disaster Relief Appeal are accepting donations big and small to help those in need. I’ve decided to donate ALL profits in my etsy store during January to the appeal in hopes of helping someone get back on their feet. I’ve discounted items too so please buy generously – if you were thinking of donating, now is a perfect time because you’ll get a beautiful piece of art at the same time.

Various Prints and Gifts available in my store from just $3.00!
