Over the weekend, my boyfriend and I have been working hard renovating my Mum’s bathroom. It’s been a working progress for a couple of years now, but she’s never had the time to completely finish it.
She had a girls weekend planned with her Mum and sisters so it was the perfect chance for us to get in and surprise her with a fresh new bathroom when she arrived home. This was an excellent plan…until her trip was canceled! We had to get my Nana in on it so she could organise a new ‘girls weekend’ so that we could follow through with our awesome surprise renovation job!
My boyfriend was in charge of paint (he’s an apprentice painter), I bought all of the decorative items (candles, towels etc;) and my little sister was in charge of all the building materials. We were planning to do an ocean theme until my little sister found these perfect curtains – they were all different shades of green leaves – so we changed our theme to the jungle!
Firstly, here are a couple of shots of the bathroom before we got to work:
First we had to take the towel racks off the wall – which proved to be a very difficult task! One of the racks left two huge holes in the wall which tested our patience later in the night when we began to fill the holes.
We had to wait hours for the putty to dry because we’re still having wet weather here in Brisbane, we even had the hair driers going at one stage! Once everything was dry, we could finally sand back the walls and begin painting!
By 9pm we had finally finished the 2nd coat on each of the walls, though they were taking forever to dry! We decided to put up the new towel racks (which also proved to be difficult).
It was almost 10pm when we decided to put up the shower curtain…only to find our curtain rod was 1cm too short! We decided to call it a night and go to bed at this point haha.
Today we woke up nice and early to go buy a new curtain rod…and now our room has been completely transformed…

I keep visiting the bathroom… just to look at it. Fab job and the best surprise ever. Thank you so much to all my little elves xxx from Casey's Mum
Good work! Bathrooms are the hardest and most expensive rooms to redo, besides the kitchen. Great present for your Mum! Hope she was very happily surprised!
